Vegan Tofu Bacon Bits Recipe

Tofu Bacon Bits

Yield: approximately 1/2 cup bacon bits

Prep time: 5 minutes

Bake time: 10-15 minutes

Author: Kitchen Potatoes

Ingredients

· 2 tbsp maple syrup

· ¼ cup soy sauce

· 1 tsp smoked paprika or 1 tbsp hickory liquid smoke

· ¼ of a block of extra firm tofu (a piece approximately 2 inches by 2 inches in size)

Method

  1. Slice tofu thinly and place between two towels. Set something heavy on top (I use books). Leave tofu to press for approximately 10 minutes or until the tofu is only slightly damp. then cut the slices into small rectangles or your desired size.

  2. In a medium bowl, combine maple syrup, soy sauce, and smoked paprika (or liquid smoke). Add the tofu pieces and gently stir together. Cover and allow to marinate for another 10 minutes.

  3. Preheat oven to 400°F and line a sheet with parchment paper. Remove the marinated tofu pieces from the marinade, setting the excess marinade aside for now. Spread the tofu pieces on the prepared sheet. Bake in the oven for 15 minutes, removing every 5 minutes to flip and reapply marinade with a pastry brush.

  4. Serve and enjoy!
